Grooming
Hello, my name is Morgan and I am a licensed, professional , pet stylist. I graduated from The Academy of
Professional Dog Grooming in 2001 and have 10 years experience. When I first walked in grooming school, I didn't even know how to hold a pair of clippers. When I left, I knew all the different breeds and pattern cuts, from breed standard to owner-specific cuts. I learned how to properly bathe and clean a dog, blow out the under coat, nail trimming, ear care, expressing anal glands, etc. After grooming school, I went on to further my education in pet styling by working under a conformation show dog groomer. This taught me how to properly hand dry a dog's coat to the breed standard, and help ensure the best hair cut possible.
I love hand scissoring because it allows me to sculpt, little by little. I can take a full shape, and take away a
little at a time, to achieve the shape I am after and best accomodate the breed. Hand scissoring anything from a
standard Poodle, a Shih Tzu, Schnauzer, to a Yorkie, in a "puppy" cut, as well as obscure breeds, all bring their
special challenges. I enjoy all of them! The greatest reward in doing what I do, is a customer showing how excited and happy they are with the job I did for not only their dog, but for their friend and member of their family. The bows that go on some dogs are hand-made by me and it's just something extra I enjoy doing.
My first job, a kennel technition, lead to becoming an assititant to a dog trainer as well as a vet technician.
Ultimately, I found my true love.. grooming! Having this extra background affords me the knowledge to identify if
there are any issues with a dog that may need to be addressed, such as ear and skin infections, etc. I love what I
do for so many reasons. It's artistic, rewarding, and I can spend my days with some of my favorite furry friends!
Dogs are a huge part of my life and always have been. I recently lost my 15 year old Basset, Cala, who was my best friend in the world. She had been with me since I was just a little girl, but ended up losing a long battle with
cancer. I have another Basset, Wilfred (who's fighting his own battle now) and two mutts, Toonces and Phyllis,
that also mean the world to me. Oh yeah, I also got married recently to the love of my life. Fortunately, my
husband loves dogs as much as I do! We have adopted four dogs in the past decade. We certainly understand how much pets mean and there is a reason dogs are "man's best friend." Many clients have brought their pets to me for
years and I hope I get a chance to meet your best friends, too!
